The partial government shutdown

First I say partial shutdown because three quarters of the federal government is still running.

If you voted for a republican last year, did you do so because you oppose Obama care?

If you voted for a democrat last year, did you do so because you support Obama care?

If the republic you voted for won, do you support him / her refusing to back down on weakening Obama care?

If the democrat you voted for won, do you support him / her refusing to back down on preserving Obama care?

You probably answered yes to the set of questions that pertain to you, as would a good majority of partisan voters. What this means is that most of congress is doing exactly what they were elected to do. And that includes fighting tooth and nail to either weaken or preserve Obama care. The end result is a government shutdown.

Some of you, mostly democrats, will say the republicans are at fault. Obama care passed both houses and was signed by the president. If republicans want to repeal it then they need to gain control of the house, the senate, and the presidency. But you probably didn’t vote the republicans. They are doing the will of a majority of the people who elected them.

Some of you, mostly republicans, will say the democrats are at fault. The democrats should negotiate with republicans and accept changes to Obama care since he already changed the law without going through congress. But you probably didn’t vote for the democrats. They are doing the will of a majority of the people who elected them.

Also, being willing to work together and compromise used to be looked at as a good thing. Now it’s looked as as a weakness. And no one wants to appear weak.

Has this whole debacle affected how you will vote? Have you actually said to yourself “I voted for them last time, but after this I’ll vote for the other side next time.” No, of course you haven’t. So don’t look for anything to change unless a some sort of external significant movement or event takes place.
